Why did you get involved with IAA PDC?
“I had only just started working at the BBC when a colleague of mine mentioned there was a spot open for joining a brand new IAA Committee to focus on Professional Development and I jumped at the chance. Being involved in the IAA was something I wanted to do more off as I had attended their events and had heard amazing things from those who were volunteering in committees. I don’t regret it! 5 years later is my longest gig and has continued to add new experiences, learning and great friends and contacts.”

What’s the best thing about the PDC?
“PDC has continually innovated to create new events and learning opportunities for all seniority levels within the industry. The whole team leans in and gets stuck in with delivering a busy calendar of events, with some now really well established like Speed Mentoring but also with coming up with new ideas each year. It’s also incredibly rewarding to see the value it adds and those special moments at events when you realise the difference it’s making to individual people; the feedback after events is always great to hear.”

What advice would you give to someone who was considering joining the committee?
“Do it! It’s a very valuable experience at all sorts of levels. An opportunity to give back, to learn new skills, to meet peers, to raise your profile and have lots of fun. Its important to remember though it does require time so make sure you have the bandwidth and energy to take it on.”

How are you finding your time on the committee?
“It’s been amazing to see my own career grow alongside the IAA and be promoted to join the board and lead the Committee, giving me further opportunities for personal growth. I love the team, the people and the events we organise and every year I am inspired to see how much further we can take it, what more can we do and inspire other people to join the journey.”

Why did you want to join the committee?
“To connect with other people in the industry and have the opportunity to learn and grow inspired by the amazing talented people we are surrounded by as well as by the work we do. Also, if you have been to any IAA event, you know it’s also incredibly fun!”
